What Do You Learn In An NRA Basic Pistol Course?

Like any of our other NRA courses, an NRA-certified instructor leads this course. Our NRA Basic Pistol Course will help you create a strong foundation for firearms training and safety so you know how to handle a pistol properly. The ten-hour course is split between the classroom and shooting range so that you can get in plenty of live-fire training.

The course takes place over two days, so you have time to absorb the material and not feel rushed. Plus, this course meets the concealed handgun permit training requirements for Colorado, Wyoming, and Florida. So if you’re interested in applying for your concealed carry permit, this would suffice for your CCW class requirements. Some topics you can expect to cover include:

NRA Basic Pistol Course FAQ

Because you will be shooting and there will be flying brass, it’s essential to wear clothes and gear that will keep you safe. Therefore, in addition to the protective equipment we’ll provide you, you need to wear closed-toe shoes, pants, and shirts with a tight collar.

There is no expiration date for certificates earned for completing courses successfully.

There are no prerequisites to take this course, making it an excellent course for shooters of all levels.
If you do not have your own pistol, please let our team know, and we can provide one for you for the live-fire training portion of this course.
At the end of the course, you will receive a completion certificate. When applying for your CCW permit, you can use this as proof to show that you successfully completed the class requirements.
One of our NRA-certified instructors will lead this course. To become an NRA instructor, they had to demonstrate a solid understanding of gun safety rules, shooting skills, pistol handling skills, complete a Basic Pistol Instructor Training program, and receive an endorsement from an NRA Training Counselor.
