Our NRA Basic Pistol Course at Colorado Handgun Safety is designed to provide you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to safely own, operate, and maintain a pistol. From handling pistols safely to cleaning and storing them correctly, this handgun course provides all the education needed for proper pistol use.
We offer a variety of courses catered to students of all levels here at Colorado Handgun Safety. So, whether you’re a new shooter who needs to learn the fundamentals of a pistol or a seasoned gun owner interested in perfecting your handgun knowledge, this course is perfect for you. Plus, when you enroll in one of our classes, you can count on a welcoming, educational, and non-judgmental environment.
Like any of our NRA courses, the NRA Basic Pistol Course is taught by our highly qualified, NRA-certified instructors. They will teach you everything about responsible pistol ownership. In total, you’ll spend ten hours learning about pistols, split between classroom and range instruction.
You can expect the shooting portion of the class to take place over two days. We do this intentionally to give you ample time to gain vital hands-on experience. And the best part? We never want you to feel uncertain when taking a firearms class. That’s why we want to answer your questions about our NRA Basic Pistol Course before you enroll. Here are some of the most common questions we get asked by our students.
Because you will be shooting and there will be flying brass, it’s essential to wear clothes and gear that will keep you safe. Therefore, in addition to the protective equipment we’ll provide you, you need to wear closed-toe shoes, pants, and shirts with a tight collar. We also recommend long sleeves.
No, but you can. If you do not intend to bring your own pistol, please let our team know. Otherwise, we provide all the firearms and ammunition needed for our classes. We also include additional gear like shooting glasses and ear protection.
If you do not have your own pistol, please let our team know. We can provide one for you for the live-fire training portion of this course.
There are no prerequisites to take this course, making it an excellent course for shooters of all levels!
There is no expiration date for certificates earned for completing courses successfully.
One of our NRA-certified instructors will lead this course. To become an NRA instructor, you have to demonstrate a solid understanding of gun safety rules, shooting skills, and pistol handling skills. Additionally, you have to complete a Basic Pistol Instructor Training program and receive an endorsement from an NRA Training Counselor.
At the end of the course, you will receive a completion certificate. When applying for your Colorado CCW permit, you will use this as proof to show that you successfully completed a training course.
