What to Expect in Our NRA Basic Pistol Course

Like any of our NRA courses, the NRA Basic Pistol Course is taught by our highly qualified, NRA-certified instructors. They will teach you everything about responsible pistol ownership. In total, you’ll spend ten hours learning about pistols, split between classroom and range instruction.

You can expect the shooting portion of the class to take place over two days. We do this intentionally to give you ample time to gain vital hands-on experience. And the best part? Our NRA Basic Pistol Course meets your concealed carry permit training requirements in Colorado, Wyoming, and Florida. Other topics we’ll cover include:

We never want you to feel uncertain when taking a firearms class. That’s why we want to answer your questions about our NRA Basic Pistol Course before you enroll. Here are some of the most common questions we get asked by our students.

Because you will be shooting and there will be flying brass, it’s essential to wear clothes and gear that will keep you safe. Therefore, in addition to the protective equipment we’ll provide you, you need to wear closed-toe shoes, pants, and shirts with a tight collar. We also recommend long sleeves.

No, but you can. If you do not intend to bring your own pistol, please let our team know. Otherwise, we provide all the firearms and ammunition needed for our classes. We also include additional gear like shooting glasses and ear protection.

If you do not have your own pistol, please let our team know. We can provide one for you for the live-fire training portion of this course.

There are no prerequisites to take this course, making it an excellent course for shooters of all levels!

There is no expiration date for certificates earned for completing courses successfully.

One of our NRA-certified instructors will lead this course. To become an NRA instructor, you have to demonstrate a solid understanding of gun safety rules, shooting skills, and pistol handling skills. Additionally, you have to complete a Basic Pistol Instructor Training program and receive an endorsement from an NRA Training Counselor.

At the end of the course, you will receive a completion certificate. When applying for your Colorado CCW permit, you will use this as proof to show that you successfully completed a training course.

Instructor was very well versed in the law and common sense scenarios. He gave good advice and knows his material inside out. I was happy to have completed this course with my family. They also have a protection program which is offered to class students should you need legal protection if the need arises from using force. I was impressed and recommend this class for anyone who is considering getting their concealed carry permit.

Very informative class! You'll learn all you need to know about carrying a concealed firearm including the extreme responsibility of doing so. It's not as cut and dry as you think and I became aware that you need mad skills at the shooting range before considering taking on this level of liability. Great instructor. The time went by very quickly, which is the sign of a good teacher.
